Leads: The Most Important Thing for Your Business

Leads are the lifeblood of a business.  Without them, you will not survive.  But, how do you find them?  Here are a few ways to generate leads for your business.

  • Purchased leads

There are several ways to purchase leads.  One thing you need to understand with leads is that unless you pay a hefty price for them, they are more than likely going to be sold to others as well.

You will want to make sure that you look at the information provided by the company selling the leads. You want to verify the way in which the information was collected. The best protection for you is if they are double opt-in leads, meaning the lead has gone through two confirmation steps before being added to the database.  This is important for two reasons.  One, it shows that the person or company is truly interested in being on the list, and two, it proves that the lead is legitimate.

  • Free leads

Free leads are an option, if you can’t afford to pay for them, but they are not as high of quality as other leads.  They are given to so many people that you may not find anyone to join your business or buy from you.  However, free leads are good in that they give you an idea of what you need to do and say to people before you find leads that you pay good money for.

  • Your own leads

You can create a lead generation tool through your own website.  The huge advantage to these types of leads is that these people are already interested in your business or your products.  If they have visited your site, they must be somewhat interested in what you have to offer, or they wouldn’t give you permission to contact them.

When you set this up you need to make sure to follow the rules of CAN-SPAM, and it's recommended that you use double opt-in for confirming addresses.

  • Phone book leads

One of the more traditional techniques used to gather leads is the phone book.  Start at the beginning and work your way to the end, making notes each time you call so that you know if you talked with the person, if he/she said yes or no to you, or if the person wasn't home. This will help you when you make return calls when you start the process over again.

Leads are a must in almost any type of business.  If you don’t have leads, you won’t be able to grow your business and increase your profits.  Consider all your options before you decide which way to go with your leads.  Try them all, if you'd like, and see which is the best source of income for you and your business.  Once you find a way that works, stick to it and watch your business grow!
