One Entrepreneur On Balance: Brad Versteegh

This is part of a series called "The Entrepreneurs On Balance."  This interview is with Brad Versteegh.

What are your general thoughts on balance (do you think it's realistic, achievable, a top priority, etc.)?

In the long run, I feel it is imperative. In the short run… not possible. J Balance is achievable. However, right now there are not nearly enough hours in a day to accomplish all there is to do.

What have been your biggest struggles when it comes to finding or maintaining balance between your business and personal lives?

As stated above, too many things to accomplish. All being top priorities. Not nearly enough hours in a day to complete them.

What have been your keys to success when it comes to finding or maintaining balance between your business and personal lives?

Loving, understanding and supportive family and friends. They keep me grounded (as much as possible) and keep me involved in personal and social events as often as possible.

Do you have any techniques or routines that help you maintain balance (example, keeping a daily journal)?

Not really.

How important is balance to your success as a business owner or entrepreneur?

I think that depends on the stage the business is in. In the beginning, it is difficult to divide your attentions. Once the business is in a positive cash flow position and there are no “fires” to attend to, balance is extremely important. It’s easy to work yourself to death and miss out on life all together.  Work will ALWAYS be there, life will not.

Any final thoughts on finding and maintaining balance?

Just that I am looking forward to the day I can look back and talk about “the days” when I used to work 18 hours a day to get this business off the ground.  Making sure you communicate acutely to your friends and family that you need their support and understanding and that you will be back as soon as possible. In the mean time do not forget about you. That you still want to be included in as many events.outings, etc. as possible.
