Smart Growth This is part of a series called "The Entrepreneurs on Marketing." This interview is with Diana De Rosa.
Regarding your approach to marketing, push or pull?
I tend to work on the concept of push by using a variety of methods from email marketing to social media such as facebook and twitter. Sometimes I’ll work with web sites like E-Zine as another method of promoting knowledge. I do reports with ISSUU and post them on my web site.
What do you think about branding?
I think it is important, but not as important for a smaller company as it is for a larger company. However, being clear about what you are marketing is very important. For instance, if you do sports photography and not studio photography, you need to be clear about that.
What are your top three ways to promote your business?
1 - Networking.
2 - When you do a job, do it well and deliver it when you promised. Your work is your best promoter.
3 - Promoting is different for different businesses. For a photographer, it might be including a nice business card with an impressive photo. Think of what you do and how you can represent that in print materials you hand out or in emails you send.
What have been your keys to success when it comes to growing your online audience?
Always keep the news fresh and relevant.
Any final thoughts on marketing a business?
I recently started a meetup group. Once a month, small business professionals get together and share their knowledge. While we are not specifically marketing our business, we are learning, and this gives us ideas on what next steps we should take. Marketing is often about the past steps and the next steps.
