Smart Planning,
Smart Thinking This is part of a series called "The Entrepreneurs On The Start." This interview is with Shawn Sledge.
What was your first business venture?
My first business venture is a social networking site called Jobslackersonline.com
What made you go into business for yourself?
I went into business for myself because I'm not the type of person that will step over anyone to climb the corporate ladder. I'm also not the type of person to kiss up to management just to get ahead.
What was some of the biggest lessons learned about starting a business?
The biggest lesson I learned was that "you" may be your only supporter. I found myself having to rely only on myself financially, physically, and emotionally.
What advice would you have for others considering going into business for themselves?
The advice I would give is to have patience and prepare yourself to work alone in the beginning if the individuals you lean on are not there. Expect to sacrifice money you may or may not have, meet as many people in your area of expertise as possible, and never give up.
Any final thoughts on starting a business?
Keep yourself motivated and humble because the payoff at the end is something no one can take from you.
