Personal Transformation with Nancy Jarvis

On this episode of Upstart Smart Radio, I'm talking with real estate agent Nancy Jarvis, who used the market downturn in 2007 as an opportunity for personal transformation.  She decided to write a mystery novel with a real estate agent as the protaganist.  She's since written two books and is now working on her third in the series.  We're going to talk a bit about that transformation and the lessons she's learned because of it.

Nancy, this is a fascinating interview. The story of your friend Charlotte brought tears to my eyes. She was wrong to wait until any of her writings were "perfect" before sending them to publishers. I read something Stephen King wrote that I'll never forget. He said (not exact quote) words to the effect that if he had waited until HE thought his work was good enough that he would never have published a thing. (In other words: We are our own worst critics.)

Of course, we should go through our manuscripts and polish them till they are as good as can be, but we shouldn't let our doubts and fears keep us from ever submitting anything.

Thanks for the reminder and best of luck with your writing career. Your transformation process was interesting to hear about.

Hugs and best,

Betty Dravis
